Sri Lanka has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), with a focus on capacity development, technical assistance and the effective implementation of international aviation standards.

Captain Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation of Sri Lanka, held a bilateral meeting with the Capacity Development and Implementation (CDI) Bureau of ICAO on the sidelines of the 61st Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation of the Asia and Pacific Regions (DGCA/61), held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The discussions centred on enhancing collaboration between Sri Lanka and ICAO, particularly in strengthening institutional capacity, securing targeted technical assistance and supporting the effective implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).

Sri Lanka’s key aviation priorities were also discussed during the meeting, including the strategic development plan for Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport. The engagement provided an opportunity to explore areas where ICAO could provide targeted technical support aligned with Sri Lanka’s evolving aviation requirements.

The meeting underscores Sri Lanka’s continued efforts to enhance the capabilities of its civil aviation sector through international cooperation, technical expertise and adherence to globally recognised aviation standards.

The engagement also reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s active participation in ICAO initiatives and its commitment to the continuous development, modernisation and strengthening of the country’s civil aviation industry.
