ITC Ratnadipa Presents ‘The Art & Life of Jayantha Premachandra’

ITC Ratnadipa, Colombo, has opened a major retrospective exhibition titled “The Art & Life of Jayantha Premachandra,” offering a rare opportunity for the public to engage with the work of one of Sri Lanka’s most respected visual artists.

Organised in collaboration with the Jayantha Premachandra Foundation, the exhibition brings together a carefully curated selection of works that trace the artist’s career and creative evolution. It presents a comprehensive view of his contribution to both local and international art landscapes.

Jayantha Premachandra is widely regarded for his ability to translate everyday human experience into powerful visual narratives. His work often reflects themes of identity, culture, and social observation, rendered through a distinctive artistic language that resonates across audiences. Over the years, his exhibitions have extended beyond Sri Lanka to audiences in Europe, Asia, and the United Kingdom.

The exhibition is housed at the Kathanayake Lounge within ITC Ratnadipa and is open to the public for a limited period. In addition to the display of artwork, the programme includes discussions, workshops, and educational sessions aimed at encouraging deeper engagement with the artist’s work and philosophy.

This initiative reflects a broader effort to position Colombo as a centre for cultural exchange and artistic expression. By hosting exhibitions of this nature, ITC Ratnadipa continues to expand its role beyond hospitality, contributing to the development of the city’s cultural landscape.

“The Art & Life of Jayantha Premachandra” stands as both a tribute and a reflection — highlighting the enduring relevance of Sri Lankan art while creating space for dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression.
