AI Academy and Tomorrow University Introduce German AI Degrees to Colombo Through Innovative Work-Study Model

Sri Lankan students and working professionals will gain access to internationally recognised German higher education while building practical industry experience in Colombo, following a new partnership between AI Academy and Germany’s Tomorrow University of Applied Sciences.

The partnership introduces a work-study model that combines academic learning with real-world professional experience, enabling learners to pursue internationally oriented qualifications while simultaneously developing practical skills through employment and industry projects.

Under the new initiative, learners in Sri Lanka will have access to Tomorrow University programmes through AI Academy’s local incubator and learning ecosystem. The model is designed to bridge the gap between traditional academic education and the rapidly evolving demands of the technology sector.

Among the qualifications being introduced are a Bachelor of Science in Applied AI and an MBA in AI & Technological Transformation, providing pathways for both aspiring AI professionals and experienced individuals seeking to strengthen their leadership and technology capabilities.

The initiative is built around a simple but increasingly relevant concept: earning a degree while gaining professional experience from the beginning of the academic journey. Rather than separating education from employment, students can apply their learning to practical business and technology challenges while developing a professional track record.

AI Academy’s educational approach is centred on project-based and human-centred learning, with students working on real-world problems in collaboration with industry partners. Its model also places emphasis on entrepreneurship, creativity, ethical technology and continuous learning.

The partnership with Tomorrow University further strengthens this approach by connecting Sri Lankan learners with a German higher-education institution focused on technology, innovation, sustainability and impact-driven careers.

For working professionals, the model offers an opportunity to pursue advanced qualifications without completely stepping away from their careers. For younger learners, it provides a pathway to develop academic knowledge alongside practical workplace capabilities.

AI Academy is based at Colombo Innovation Tower, where it operates as an applied-AI-focused learning and innovation hub. The institution works with industry partners to provide students with exposure to real-world AI applications and potential employment opportunities.

Tomorrow University of Applied Sciences, meanwhile, positions itself as a global university focused on preparing learners for impact-driven careers through flexible and applied learning. Its partnership with AI Academy extends this educational approach to Sri Lanka, creating a new opportunity for local learners to access German higher education without having to relocate overseas.

The collaboration comes at a time when artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping industries and increasing demand for professionals who can combine technical knowledge with business, leadership and problem-solving capabilities.

By integrating academic qualifications, employment and practical application, the AI Academy–Tomorrow University partnership aims to prepare a new generation of Sri Lankan professionals for an increasingly AI-driven global economy.

The initiative represents a significant step towards creating more flexible and career-focused pathways in higher education, while strengthening Sri Lanka’s connection with international education and technology ecosystems.
