Sri Lankan Sheraj Obeysekere appointed as CEO of South Pacific Stock Exchange in Fiji

he South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX), Fiji’s premier securities exchange, has made an exciting announcement regarding its new leadership. Sheraj Obeyesekere, a seasoned professional with 12 years of diverse corporate experience, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer, making him one of the youngest CEOs in the stock exchange industry at just 34 years old.
Sheraj’s impressive career journey spans various sectors, including global banking, financial services, professional services, IT management, and sports governance. His foray into capital markets began at the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) in Sri Lanka in 2016, where he ascended from Senior Executive to Head of Special Projects within the CEO’s Office. During his tenure at CSE, Sheraj spearheaded numerous initiatives encompassing investment promotion, branding, digitalization, community engagement, and strategic partnerships.
The SPX, Fiji’s sole licensed securities exchange regulated by the Reserve Bank of Fiji, plays a vital role in facilitating capital raising and providing a transparent platform for secondary market trading. As a private entity governed by its Board of Directors, SPX operates with the mission to foster a fair and vibrant capital market ecosystem. Additionally, SPX oversees two subsidiary companies, Central Share Registry Pte Ltd. (CSRL) and SPX Trustees Ltd., further enhancing its role in the financial landscape of Fiji.
