roMate Sri Lanka, a leading manufacturer of stationery, recently joined forces with Ratna Publishers, a renowned name in Sri Lanka’s publishing industry, to make a significant impact through a book collection initiative. This effort aimed to support visually impaired students by facilitating their education, communication, and integration into society.
ProMate utilized its extensive network of branches across the country as convenient drop-off points for the public to donate used CR notebooks. Each donated book was noted to provide six pages suitable for Braille writing, effectively repurposing resources to benefit visually impaired students.
To raise awareness about the initiative and educate the public on the importance of repurposing used books, ProMate collaborated with the advertising agency Ogilvy. Together, they produced a touching video illustrating how donating used books could positively impact visually impaired students, drawing parallels to the tradition of passing down toys or clothes within families.
Further expanding the initiative’s reach, Volunteer Sri Lanka, a nonprofit organization, partnered with ProMate to establish additional drop-off locations across provinces. This collaboration significantly widened the collection network, making it easier for more people to contribute to the cause.
Through these efforts, ProMate Sri Lanka and its partners demonstrated a commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for visually impaired students while promoting sustainable practices through book upcycling. Their collective initiative not only supported a worthy cause but also fostered a sense of community engagement and social responsibility among the public.
