S
ri Lanka is gearing up to host a concert by Ed Sheeran in 2025, with support from the Cinnamon hospitality group, announced Tourism Minister Harin Fernando.
“A company recently approached us with plans to bring Ed Sheeran, one of the leading singers, to Sri Lanka in January or February,” Fernando shared with reporters in Colombo on Monday.
“Cinnamon Life has taken on the responsibility of organizing the event.”
This concert will mark the first performance by an international pop star in the country in several years.
The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau also mentioned its plans to enhance the country’s entertainment sector to better compete with neighboring nations.
“We are in competition with countries like Thailand, Maldives, and Singapore,” Fernando noted.
Despite this competition, Sri Lanka has not hosted a concert by an international artist since 2015.
The country anticipates welcoming 2.3 million tourists in 2024, with initial projections suggesting even higher numbers.
However, in April, the e-visa system was handed over to a private consortium, whose website has proven difficult to navigate, leading to a decline in tourism growth numbers.
