Sri Lankan mercenaries fighting on the Russian side in the Russia-Ukraine war will receive compensation of up to 3 million rubles (10,740,257.48 Sri Lankan rupees) for injuries, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry.
“For injuries, the compensation is up to 3 million rubles, and for death, it is up to 12 million rubles (42,835,154.57 Sri Lankan rupees),” Sabry informed reporters on Friday.
A Sri Lankan delegation to Russia, led by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Tharaka Balasuriya, discussed the matter of compensation.
While the Sri Lankan foreign ministry reports 17 Sri Lankan deaths, escapees claim that over 200 Sri Lankan ex-soldiers have died on the battlefield.
