NSBM Green University has been awarded the Gold Award for being the “Best Government Institution that Contributes to the Environment” at the 2024 Presidential Environment Awards Ceremony, presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The prestigious award was presented at a grand ceremony held on June 28 at BMICH, with President Wickremesinghe in attendance.
Organized annually by the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) under the Ministry of Environment, the Presidential Environment Awards are the highest recognition for environmental conservation and sustainability in Sri Lanka. The awards honor industries, organizations, and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to sustainable development through environmental protection.
NSBM Green University was recognized for its exceptional dedication to environmental conservation and sustainability. As South Asia’s pioneering green university, NSBM has consistently led the way in promoting environmental sustainability in the region.
This is the second year in a row that the university has been honored at this prestigious event. The 2024 Gold Award underscores NSBM’s steadfast commitment to sustainability through numerous eco-friendly practices. These practices include integrating sustainability modules into its curriculum, maintaining high-quality green spaces, conserving energy and materials, using renewable energy sources, and implementing extensive recycling programs. Additionally, the university encourages its students to lead projects that align with its green concept, fostering a culture of sustainability among future leaders.
