Gevorg Sargsyan has been named the World Bank Group Country Manager for Sri Lanka, effective July 1.
This newly established role will serve as a single point of contact for the full range of World Bank Group products and services, the Washington-based lender announced.
“My priority is to enhance the collaboration among Bank Group institutions in Sri Lanka, improving our efficiency and strengthening our partnership with the government, private sector, and Sri Lankan people to support them in overcoming current challenges and building a prosperous, resilient nation,” Sargsyan stated.
He noted that Sri Lanka is facing a unique set of challenges, including economic recovery, increased poverty, and the impacts of climate change, all of which require significant reforms to protect the economy and its citizens.
Sargsyan, an Armenian national who joined the World Bank in 2000, brings over two decades of diverse experience to the position. He has previously served as Country Manager and Manager of Operations in Europe, Central Asia, and East Asia, as well as Program Manager for Climate Finance and Global Lead for Clean Energy.
Sri Lanka is among 21 World Bank Group offices transitioning to a single Country Manager or Resident Representative for the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), International Development Association (IDA), International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
