Starting from July 17, Sri Lanka’s Elections Commission will have the constitutional authority to set the date for the next Presidential elections, according to Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake.

Ratnayake explained, “The Presidential Elections must be held between one month before November 18 and two months after, as per the Constitution and the law. Working backwards, the earliest date the Commission can announce the election is likely around July 17.”

He also mentioned that the electoral list is currently being finalized.
