The Hindu: Deputy National Security Adviser Vikram Misri, a former envoy to Beijing and a China expert, has been appointed as India’s next foreign secretary, as stated in an official notification on Friday.

Misri, a 1989 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), has the unique experience of serving as the private secretary to three prime ministers. He will assume his new role on 15 July, according to the Cabinet’s appointments committee notification. Misri joined the National Security Council in January 2022.

He will succeed Vinay Kwatra, who received a six-month extension in April. The notification also mentioned that Kwatra’s extension will end on 14 July. It is widely anticipated that Kwatra will be appointed as India’s next Ambassador to the United States.
