Softlogic Life Records Strong First-Half Growth with Rs. 7.2 Billion Increase in GWP
Softlogic Life Insurance PLC has reported its strongest first-half performance to date, recording the largest absolute increase in Gross Written Premiums (GWP) among Sri Lanka’s life insurers during the six months ended 30 June 2026.
The company’s GWP increased by Rs. 7.2 billion year-on-year to Rs. 26 billion, representing a 39% growth compared with Rs. 18.7 billion recorded during the corresponding period in 2025. The strong performance lifted Softlogic Life’s market share to 20.3% as of the second quarter of 2026, compared with 18.4% at the end of FY2025.
Profitability also remained strong during the period. Profit After Tax (PAT) increased by 20% year-on-year to Rs. 1.46 billion, while Profit Before Tax (PBT) rose by 14% to Rs. 1.98 billion.
The company continued to maintain solid financial fundamentals, recording a Return on Equity (ROE) of 39% and a Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 245% as of 31 December 2025. The CAR remains well above the regulatory minimum of 120%, highlighting the company’s financial strength and resilience.
Softlogic Life’s total assets increased to Rs. 81.6 billion as at 30 June 2026, while total equity reached Rs. 14.6 billion. Financial investments stood at Rs. 61 billion, representing approximately 75% of total assets, with government securities accounting for 74% of the investment portfolio.
Strong Focus on Health and Protection
The company also strengthened its position as Sri Lanka’s largest payer of health and protection claims. During the first half of 2026, Softlogic Life paid Rs. 10.4 billion in claims and benefits, compared with Rs. 9.1 billion during the same period in 2025.
More than Rs. 7.2 billion of these payments were related specifically to health and protection claims, demonstrating the company’s continued focus on providing financial support to customers when it matters most.
Softlogic Life currently provides protection to more than 1.8 million Sri Lankans through over 870,000 active policies, compared with 770,749 policies in the first half of 2025. This growth has further strengthened its position as the country’s largest life insurer by customer reach.
Expansion and Regional Growth
The company’s latest results follow a period of significant strategic expansion. In July 2025, Softlogic Life completed its acquisition of Allianz Life Insurance Lanka, marking the first life-insurer-to-life-insurer acquisition in Sri Lanka’s insurance industry.
More recently, in July 2026, the company acquired a 60% controlling stake in Bangladesh’s Diamond Life Insurance, marking Softlogic Life’s first overseas acquisition and creating a platform for its expansion into the regional insurance market.
The Bangladesh investment represents the next stage of Softlogic Life’s growth strategy, with the company aiming to leverage its experience in product innovation, disciplined execution and customer-focused solutions beyond Sri Lanka.
Commenting on the results, Softlogic Life Chairman Ashok Pathirage said the company’s ability to achieve the industry’s largest absolute GWP growth while remaining the country’s largest payer of health and protection claims reflects the strength of its strategy and consistent execution.
Managing Director Iftikar Ahamed highlighted that the company’s performance is underpinned by trust, innovation and disciplined execution, while noting that its Health for Life product and expansion into Bangladesh represent important milestones in its future growth strategy.
With continued demand for health coverage, financial protection and long-term savings solutions, Softlogic Life’s first-half results underline its growing presence in Sri Lanka’s insurance sector and its ambition to build a stronger regional footprint.
