The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Maldives Business Chamber have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening economic ties and creating new opportunities for trade, investment, and commercial partnerships between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Hon. Wasantha Samarasinghe, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, and H.E. Masood Imad, High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to Sri Lanka. The MoU was signed by Mr. Krishan Balendra, Chairperson of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Ahmed Amjad, President of the Maldives Business Chamber.

The partnership establishes a framework for closer and sustained cooperation between the two business chambers. Key areas of collaboration include facilitating business-to-business connections, identifying trade and investment opportunities, supporting business delegations and networking initiatives, exchanging market intelligence, and encouraging cooperation across sectors of mutual interest.

Sri Lanka and the Maldives have long maintained strong economic and people-to-people ties, with considerable potential for further collaboration. The MoU is expected to support business opportunities across a range of sectors, including tourism, logistics, construction, healthcare, food and agriculture, financial services, and professional services.

The agreement also strengthens the role of the Sri Lanka-Maldives Business Council of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in promoting bilateral commercial relations. Through enhanced business connectivity, dialogue, and partnership development, the Council will continue to support companies seeking to explore opportunities in both markets.

The MoU marks an important step towards deepening private-sector collaboration between Sri Lanka and the Maldives and is expected to contribute to sustainable economic growth by encouraging greater trade, investment, and cross-border business engagement.
